The influence of variable thickness of shell on the frequencies and forms their own longitudinal–radial vibrations is researched. It is shown that the variable thickness no effect on the frequencies and interaction of longitudinal and radial vibrations of relatively long shells. It has been established that the variable thickness reduces rather than increases the fundamental frequency of the radial vibrations of relatively short shells. For the detection of this fact in the mathematical model must be taken into account subtle «fast» vibrations. Neglecting of fast vibrations may lead to qualitatively incorrect conclusions on influence of variable thickness to the fundamental frequency.
Key words: circular cylindrical shell, variable thickness, frequencies and forms of longitudinal and radial vibrations, «fast» vibrations.
